Steam engine service facility plans?

With walther's new turntable comming out soon,If it's any good ,I would like to include a engine service area .Of course my problem is going to be space,I will need something that will fit into a area about 2ftx 10ft. attached to a existing 20in. around the wall,shelf layout. Doe's anyone know of any linier plans?

Kalmbach has a great primer book on engine servicing facilities, that includes a few smallish, linear engine facilities. Definitely pick up a copy.

I'm with Ray, I liked the Kalmbach book too. Of course I'm not usually critical of books. I tend to find something of use in whatever I read.

I can vouch for the above comments. I picked up the very book only 3 weeks ago and found it very informative and helpful: Good pictures (never enough) and good suggestions.

I've been interested in adding a coaling tower to my layout for a while but the ones commercially available would look gargantuan on my 4 x 8' table. (Most are too tall and would stick out like a sore thumb.) The publisher commented that some of the smaller lines used to use a conveyor belt or steam shovel (even wheel barrows on an elevated platform) to load the coal into the tender. I think that would work and look much better on my layout, without overwhelming it.

FYI: The book contains information on both steam and diesel facilities. Definitely a keeper and worth purchasing.

Bill Darnaby wrote an article in MR a few months (year ) back on engine facilities. Very detailed. Maybe some one can help with the issue dates??
