SnapSwitches were discussed and explained in the earlier thread you abandoned:

Awesome. So snap switches don't have a number.

A snap-switch is about a #3.75.   Here is a picture of one so you can measure it for yourself.  You can also see  the diverging track is not curved.

Narrows it down just like i need it! Thanks. 3 track yard 4s left passing, 6 and rest left the same. Will that be 4 also?

No the rest will actually be labeled Snap-Switch.  The diverging leg is actually an 18" radius curve.  The #4 is not curved beyond the frog.

Check out Atlas's site for pictures here

Good luck

I agree with Lion that these look like snap switches.

I would change the 2 turnouts in the 3 track yard to Atlas #4's.  This will reduce S curve issues and probably allow a tighter yard.

I would also change the 2 that from the inner passing track on the left hand side to #6's.  Again helps with S curve issues on the mainline.

The others I would leave alone as they have no issues and changing them looks to create new problems with fitting everything in.

Note these changes will probably require some custom cutting of sectional pieces or use of short lengths of flex track cut to fit.

Good luck

To me, the path thru the frog and beyond in the ones depicted look like non-snap switches, the kind one would see on a real N. American turnout.  N. American style turnouts have a curved point rail, but the path at the frog and beyond is straight, if diverged in the one case.  British turnouts are curved through the frog and beyond.

If I were to guess, these may be a 'true' #4, if such an animal exists, or it intends the use of the Atlas #4 which is really a #4.5.

If the drawing is accurate, I would say those just plain old Snap Switches. Some have a mark for the 1/3 curve piece others do not. Count off the curve tracks on the inner right loop, there are 6 curve sections including the switches, and this would not work out with No. 4 switches.

If you like, you could use 4s or 6s in the interior sections as those tracks do not reconnect with the mane.

Turnout Number
Posted by trainman251 on Thursday, May 30, 2013 10:15 AM

The other day i posted a question asking what would be the best turnout to use. Due to a posting issue and a few misunderstandings, i am going to repost. You should see the layout plan below. What turnout numbers does it look to be using? It was created by a former member who no longer participates. He said he didn't remember much and used the atlas track planning tool years ago. Is it possible to determine by eye, or can it be recreated? Thanks in advance.
