"I like my Pullman Standards & Budds in Stainless Steel flavors, thank you!"
I'm wondering,if the scuffing part, had more to do with packaging, than actual use..

AntonioFP45 Just to add to what was mentioned above. The soft bristle brush is a very good tool for dusting off the metalized / plated cars (and for other rolling stock and locomotives as well). The 100% soft cotton cloth (slightly dampened) is helpful in removing oily and silicone type smudges, such as finger prints. One thing that can make me cringe is seeing modelers at a club or meet eating food items, such as: potato chips, sandwiches, dill pickles, etc, then as soon as the "munching is done" they immediately grab their locos, freight cars, or plated cars! Or worse.....licking their fingers and then reaching for their units. Finger licking, particularly, drives me nuts. Makes me want to say: "PLEASE.....wash your hands!", LOL

Antonio, those are very good points. I appreciate the additional comments. While I never eat or snack when running trains, your comments remind me to wash my hands before running trains, just to remove any dirt or oil on my fingers.
What really scared me was the retailer's reference to "susceptible to scuffing". Scuffing sounds like a really damaging effect to the finish, unlike fingerprints or food residue which, at least, could be removed.

No I do not,,,that's why I dId not reply in the beginning.. The only passenger cars I have, are the old BB Santa Fe's,pulled by,F7's,ABBA, BB ''Growlers'' and 6 B&O 85FT HW,bY a Blue B&O,4-6-2 steamer.. They are all, boxed up and stored, for a some day experience.. My belief, though on the subject in question, would be in the case of rough handling and or fingerprints..

Frank,
Do you own any of the Walthers plated cars?
AntonioFP45 Hi Rich, The "plated" finish on the Walthers Pine and Regal series units are durable and are not marred easily when handled. But like any other model the finishes can be scratched or gouged if bumped or rubbed against hard or sharp surfaces. One mistake to avoid is wiping the plated surfaces with paper towels or cloths with semi-abrasive surfaces. To remove smudges or fingerprints, just use the same type of soft cotton cloth material that is used in t-shirts. 100% works well. Dampen slightly with water and wipe in a horizontal direction for the roof and sides, vertical on the ends including the striker plate. This same rule applies to Alclad2 metalized finishes sealed with Alclad2 clear.

Thanks, that is very helpful info.
What scares me about the plated finish is a comment made by an eBay retailer which reads, "High gloss finish very susceptible to scuffing so some cars have been re-wrapped in tissue."
I always dust off the top of my passenger cars with a soft bristle brush that looks like barber's shaving cream brush, and I worry that would scuff the cars.
I believe,that would probably work,,,except for the,occasional,,,,''What are Those'',comments..LOL..
zstripe richhotrain Thanks for your replies, guys. Anyone else? Surely, at least some of you have the plated cars. Any thoughts or comments about the possibility of scuffing? Rich Rich, I BELIEVE,,,Most folks, are more interested in the,''Energizer Bunny'',Thread,, about Technology,,am I left behind??LOL,LOL Cheers, Frank

OK, let me try this tact.
I HAVE A DOZEN SETS OF WALTHERS PLATED SANTA FE SUPER CHIEF CARS TO GIVE AWAY TO ANYONE WHO IS INTERESTED.
Hope that they don't scuff !
Its probably no more so than any other fine model. Tissue has been used for decades to protect them in the original packaging.
The plated finish is likely more susceptible to finger prints however. And left in place, they may eventually be permanent......................
ENJOY !

I don't have the Chief, but do have the super liners in the "new plated finish" ... The plating appears pretty durable. My 3-year old is handling these (yeah I know! why I would let that happen?) for months now and no issuesv
There was a recent eBay auction in which mention was made of tissue wrapped cars to protect them with the caution that the high gloss finish is very susceptible to scuffing. Is this true?
