Thank you Jeffery for your kind support !
I will be closing up shop now for a few months while I help to nurse my wife back to health after knee surgery.
Cheers ! John.

OK guys, maybe John's brand of modeling isn't your cup of tea. If you don't like it don't look at it. Coming in here and throwing out negative remarks and destructive criticism only makes you look bad to others. His efforts aren't exactly what I term railroad modeling but it's what makes him happy and that's what we're in the hobby for. The hobby has many aspects and facets, building a decked out running layout is only part of it. Some like to build only structures, some only build rolling stock and loco kits and may never run any of it. That doesn't make them any less a model railroader. Whether you put together a layout that could put Miniture Wunderland to shame or put a piece of plywood or foam with some track slapped down on it or scenes that have no track at all it's all model railroading one way or another.

No I haven't but thanks anyway Tstage ! Here is the start of my 10X30 layout.
Just a suggestion, John: Have you ever considered that your efforts might be better served in a blog?
It seems that 12 inches wide would be a good place to start. If need be I can always add more space later.I have two choices for the length of the layout either 30 or 41 inches long.
First up will be to square the edge of the present panel so that the layout panel can be screwed on.Extra support will be added when I complete the base.At present I am favoring the idea of attaching the HO layout behind the fence with the fence acting as as backdrop. When looking from the front of the piece the layout part would be almost completely hidden from the viewer.I can only imagine the kids faces when they see the layout on the other side.
There is also a possibility that I will somewhere down the road add another 1/24 scale General to the 41 inch long side.I have one so I might as well use it too.
The backdrop will be something like this.I recently purchased a wide angle camera for this purpose and I am really looking forward to playing with this idea.
Here is where I am planning for a shelf type HO layout(Behind the stick).Switching to HO will allow me a lot more options than with N scale.I am planning to build a backdrop along the fence line either a landscape or a street scene.
In the meantime I will continue with the rest of the layout ,do some research and planning and save up some hobby money for my HO part of the project.
Steady boys, give John a break! I am sure one day there will be some track and a train on this, em, layout.
JohnReid I am here to learn new things so any help would be much appreciated. Cheers ! John.

John, if you really want help, there has to be a dialog, and you have to respond to legitimate questions about what you are trying to accomplish and how we might help you.
I keep on asking what I consider legitimate questions, and I get no answers.
So with that, I am outta here and I don't intend to reply to this thread again.

Why don't you guys just continue to talk among yourselves and just open another thread ? Why not title it "I wonder what John is doing?
Cheers! John.
Hi gentlemen,
An awesome actress in a wonderful movie. The first words were spoken only after 20 minutes.
(it seems we have one horse short......... hmmmm two to many). For a man without words the right movie, though his threads must be killing him. So many words about nothing.

Well, whatever he is doing it seems he is having a good time with it.
NorthCoast RRRichhotrain.....its a noble pursuit, but I feel the OP marches to the beat of his own drummer. He is a skilled modeler. I just don't feel he understands this to be a model railroad forum.
Well, as you said earlier, "I thought we were getting somewhere, but I was wrong".
John never answered my earlier question that I posed to him which was, what are your expectations regarding this thread?
I am just not certain if John is looking for advice and critique in this regard, or simply looking for comments on his work, or whether his intent is to simply post photos for viewing and not looking for anything beyond that.
I think that it would help immensely to get some direction from him in this regard.

That's the problem!
John started fantasizing about Claudia Cardinale and forgot that we are waiting for the dimensions of the theme park shown in the photo posted earlier in this thread so that we could make suggestions on the track portion of the layout?
In the movie "Once upon a time in the west" there are two stations depicted. The one from the opening scene of the gunfight and the other where the beautiful Claudia Cardinale arrives.I will try to recreate the second scene in HO as I should have lots of stuff to work with. This should be fun !
Above design by Dave 777.
Hi Rich ! OK I see what you mean.A shelf type layout in HO with a fiddle yard at one end and a station at the other may be a better way to go.The "old west" town is already in HO so a lot of the scenery is already taken care of.
John, jmbjmb is correct about that track diagram that you posted. There is no way that it would fit in a 20" x 20" section.
I initially mentioned 10" radius curved track as the absolute minimun for N scale. Assuming that your track plan incorporated 10" radius curved track, each square on your diagram would represent a 5 inch square section. That being the case, that track diagram would require a 40" x 60" rectangular surface or a 20" x 40" L-shaped surface.
I do like the track diagram in that the leftmost section of track between the two turnouts could be used as a station track for passengers visiting the theme park. One solution might be to wrap the track around the sides of the theme park. That would require the width of the layout "module" to be 40 inches.
What is the overall size of the theme park shown in your first photo posted a little earlier in this thread?
The overall size of the present panel is 30" X 41".The "L" shaped layout panel would be screwed to it on two sides.
Are you saying the space you have is 20 inches by 20 inches? The track plan you show above won't fit in that space, or even anything close to it. Or is it more of a wrap around the square so you have an L roughly 40 x 40 with the individual legs of the L being 20 inches deep from front to back? Sorry, but I'm having a hard time connecting any of this?
Maybe something like this would be nice.
Well this is basically an" L "shaped shelf type layout.Twenty inches wide on both sides seems like a good place to start.I haven't yet given too much thought to the actual run of the train, maybe just a scenic tour through a natural environment would be nice.
Thanks Rich I will keep what you said in mind when posting in the future.Cheers! John.
