One can mix and match, adding curves as necessary to align the tracks as needed. Here's an example of the process I use in CAD with HO scale, but of course it works fine in N scale as well.

Pre-fab track crossings such as Atlas are typically already isolated as needed.

When using track crossings, do you have to match turnouts coming from both directions for the crossing in between the turnouts (for example, 22.5 degree crossing between two #7 turnouts, or can you mix and match turnouts. Also, are there any wiring issues when using a track crossing section? Thank you.
