I had a tab break off an old Atlas GP7, the ones with Kato drive. I glued a small styrene block to the body, then drilled and tapped a 2-56 hole and used a screw.

Sounds like a proto.  If so, the tab is probably beyond repair.  But with 5 out of 6 tabs intact, you should be fine.  If it has the screw on coupler boxes, that should also provide security.

On many of my protos, the friction between the weight and the shell also provides support.

With older proto diesels, removing the shell after it has been attached securely, often results in broken tabs.

I have had this happen to both my P2K SD7s. Somewhat a poor flimsey method of holding the shell. I tried to bond the few that broke, but unless you can backup the break w/ some styrene, it will eventually just break again.  I don't have a problem w/ missing 1 or 2, but more than that and it will be difficult to keep the shell on firmly. May even rattle or vibrate.  I used epoxy to secure the tabs, plastic cement and CA lasted only 1 shot and it was broken again,

Broken Tab on Diesel Shell

I have a plastic diesel shell with six tabs at the bottom of the shell that fit into holes in the metal chassis and snap into place as downward pressure is applied.

One of the tabs broke off.

Has anyone had this happen to him and successfully reattached the tab?

If so, what did you use to reattach the tab?  CA glue, 2-part epoxy, whatever?

Is there a way to reattach it so it will hold, or am I fighting a losing battle?
