I was thinking of building the Turtle Creek Central project railroad, from MR issues January to April 2003. I would like to make the expansion sectional, so if I move to a larger room I can expand my layout. I have many locomotives and rolling stock, so I would like to have more space to store them on the layout. Though, I do not want to have a coal mine. I need some help; what should I put on the extension?

The Turtle Creek is actually from the 1957 book 101 Track Plans for Model Railroads.  It was designed to expand from any of the three tracks running off the edge.

If you just want a place to store cars, as the prior poster noted a yard could be the best choice.  If you want to store locomotives an engine terminal could be used.   If you really want more industries that just happen to "store" cars then it might depend on what industries you choose on the main part of the layout.  I've always thought a grain elevator or mill made a nice addition to any layout.    Depending on what part of the country you are intersted in a textile mill, or furnature factory could be good additions.

You mean like this? http://www.layoutvision.com/gallery/id22.html  The only one I know of.  you could make the mine a sea port, small interchange yard, or whatever you want

Hi everyone,

I was thinking of building the Turtle Creek Central project railroad, from MR issues January to April 2003. I would like to make the expansion sectional, so if I move to a larger room I can expand my layout. I have many locomotives and rolling stock, so I would like to have more space to store them on the layout. Though, I do not want to have a coal mine. I need some help; what should I put on the extension?

Thanks.
