train yard

Does anyone have some pictures of their train yard? I am looking to how other people have landscaped theirs to see if mine is looking how it should. I would posts some pictures of my own but I don't have digital camera.

I don't have pictures but I can tell you the way I do it. First of all yards are level. people have to walk between the tracks so you either need to raise the yard level to the height of the main or transition it down to table top level. I prefer the latter because most yards in my opinion and observation are lower than the main. I use cinder ballast in yards and I use N gauge ballast with HO. Just looks better to me. An occasional small spill of coal or from a tank car is ok based on your era just don't overdo it. Also need some trash around like broken 2x4's and newspapers etc. Also some rusty knuckles or trackbars can add to the aura.

I use HO cork roadbed for the main, N for the passenger station, sidings, and freight A/D track. Industrial spurs may be raised or lowered to suit the site( vary them), and yards are on the table top. I use N ballast light color on the main and darker on the rest. Also the yards and industrials may be level with the ties and occasionally level with the rails.

In my train yard I have 5 lines with woodland scenic foam road bed underneath the track. Then I ballasted the tracks with dark brown medium sized ballast. Now I just need to put the finishing touches on the yard by weathering the track. I will try to post the photos soon! thanks

My yards are not yet sceniced, but the track is lain directly on foamboard to get the elevation down. Scenicing will be fine ash on latex paint. I plan some buildings and rail company road crossings to vary the visual effect.
