In earlier issues, the elevation boxes may have been white, I don't remember. Anything in a box is probably an elevation. Curves on a plan that aren't marked with a radius would typically be the given minimum radius for that particular plan.

Thanks for the clarification on the tan box numbers.  I don't recall what layout I was looking at that had the White boxes but if I see one again I'll post it.  I have to say it is nice to see the radii details added to the drawings.

Thanks,

Dave

I understand the legend of the drawing but it's the different inch markings you see on the drawing that I can't tell what all are for.  I can tell the tan ones are for radii (I think) but there are ones (inch markings) that are in white boxes as well as inch measurements that are not in a box at all but have a line linking them to an area of the track.

Tan boxes are elevations above the floor. (Note that on this plan, these are much larger than most radii typically would be in that space -- 47", 46", etc.)

I don't see any inch markings in white boxes on that plan. Maybe you can tell us one that you are seeing.

The inch markings with a line to the curve are the radius of the curve the line points to. 22", 30", 18", etc.

Thanks for the info.  I know now what the white box inches and the tan color inches are for but there is one other that I can't figure out that I noticed on the Oakland, Antioch & Eastern Railway (HO Scale) 11x19 that has inches called out on track areas.  All I can come up with is those are radii as well.

Thanks,

Dave

Can someone tell me where I can find a key to the track plan drawings or what each measurement is for.  I don't know if the inch measurement in the tan box is the radius for the curve, if so, what is the other inch measurement on the track?

The inch measurements in the small rectangular boxes are the elevations of tracks -- typically above the floor. This is measured at the top of the rails.

The other inch measurements are probably radii. If you told us what plan you are looking at, we might be more help.

I am not sure I know what you are talking about.

all I see as the "key" for each track plan here and in the magazines looks like this:

Name: Logansport & Indiana Northern
Layout designer: Tom Johnson
Scale: HO (1:87.1)
Size: 24 x 26 feet
Prototype: freelance short line
Locale: northern Indiana
Era: present day
Style: around-the-walls shelf
Mainline run: 85 feet
Minimum radius: 26"
Minimum turnout: no. 6

That looks self-explanatory, really.

If you are talking about the "Minimum radius: 26"" line that means the minimum radius of the curves are 26" on center of the rails, or requiring a space of 52" on center of the rails to make a hal or a full circle.

Am I not getting what you are talking about?

-G .

Just my thoughts, ideas, opinions and experiences. Others may vary.

 HO and N Scale.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

A key to explain the drawings would be great.
