DH123AT in an Athearn GP38-2

I installed a DH123AT into my Athearn GP38-2 and when I got ready to put the shell back on, if the shell went on at all something seemed to be in contact with the motor because a rubbing sound came from within the locomotive that was not there before. I tried to fix the problem by shortening the wires but it didn't help. Any ideas?

i build a bracket out of styrene that holds the decoder off of the top of the gear box at the rear of the locomotive. There is not as much room as it appears. Just a slight touch of one of the small wires to a flywheel or driveshaft is enough to stall the locomotive. Another approach is to stick the decoder to the top of the shell with double sided tape. Again care must be taken in the placement of the decoder.

I think that it's just the bundles of wires that are getting me. The decoder is staying near the top rear of the inside of the shell. I think that when I remove the lamp bracket (I am installing new lights,) that that will solve most of the problem.
