DCC questions
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, June 24, 2004 10:42 AM
Hello again!
I have another question. This ties into the bus wire question too. I was wondering, when you first install the bus wires, where does it get the power from? Does it get the power from the command station, or do you hook up a power supply to it? Thanks for the info!!

Zach,

Your command station conncets to the bus. The power supply connects to the command station.

A friend of mine has an Easy DCC system from CVP products on his home layout. He became similarly confused when reading through their instructions, and connected his DC power supply to the track along with the output from the command station.

For a couple of weeks, we couldn't figure out why the command station kept indicating a short every time his locomotive crossed from one power block to the next, until he happened to mention the DC power connection one day. After it was disconnected, no more shorts.

So, in answer to your question, the power supply connects to the command station, and the command station connects to the track. To do otherwise can cause some very strange results.
