That $100 is a temporary thing.  Either it will come down in a couple of weeks, or someone will pay it!Smile

The store in question is definately Habitat. I'm a fan of Jimmy Carter's work.

I was kind of taken aback by those prices. They ahve a couple of cabinets I would have liked if they weren't asking $100 each for them as well.

They did have a good deal on a dozen sets of matching interior door knob asseblies I'll probablybuy.

I have a bunch of stuff that didn't sell in the yard sale we had over the weekend, which i'll probably let them have as well.

There's a couple of states where there's some haggling going on over the name, so that's possible.  Typically, if the door is in brand new condition, it should be priced at 1/2 of retail, depending on your local market.  If it's in used condition, it should be less than that, unless it's a high traffic item.  From what I've seen, flush hollow core doors are not in that category.  $20 seems high, only about $10 off retail.  That being said, pricing is done locally by the manager, and at the end of the day, the money does go to a good cause...  Also, the longer something sits, the cheaper it should get.  The idea is to turn materials into cash for the organization, not display them perpetually.

My recommendation is to keep your eyes peeled.  Frequently they'll run sales and they'll discount prices significantly to move stuff out.

I checked the Habitat site for ReStore locations, 3 in Mass but not the one in Springfield MA that shows up in Goggle.  Are there stores using the name ReStore that are not affiliated with Habitat for Humanity?  Maybe that's why the prices seem high.

Interesting. There's one of these about 3 miles from my house, however, the person who sets the prices needs to call the stores in your area. They have all their doors marked at $20 or more, with the exception of ones that have more than 4 coats of paint or holes larger than 6".

We do, however, also have a "Broke & Poor", and they have a decent selection in the $5-$15 range.

Build a Layout, Build a House!

My new job is to open and run a "ReStore" operation for our local Habitat for Humanity affiliate.  Basically it's a clearinghouse for second hand and donated building supplies that are offered at a significant discount to raise money to build Habitat houses.  In the past week, I've visited four of these stores, and all of them are awash in flush door slabs.  Many with holes drilled, and scratches and dents.

Most for $5 a piece or less.  So if you've been thinking about building a layout based on a door slab, here's your chance to try it without risking a big investment.

Go find your local ReStore, and let's get a little demand going to match up with that supply!

You can thank me later.
