I've had better luck with rubbing alcohol in place of water for ballast work. Rubbing alcohol evaporates faster than water and doesn't seem to damage adjacent scenery as much as water could if you accidentally overspray.

Jerry, a track erasor works also. They're sold at any hobby shop. When using it, lay it flat across both rails at once and move back and forth with a light force in a motion that is going with the direction of the rails, not across or against them.. This way, as you're cleaning the track rails, you won't accidently dig into the ballast that you've already glued down. When your'e done, take a soft lint free cloth or a blue shop towel (it's totally lint free), wrap a portion of it around your index finger and lightly run along the tops of the rails. After you do this, you're ready to run your trains, as this whole process only takes a few minutes..

Thanks, Sounds like a good plan, dont break it so you don't have to fix it. The only reason I was concered was the Woodland vidio showed them using senic glue out of a spray bottle after the ballast was put on and brushed off the ties and rails.

Jerry;

Do not put it on the rails. Use white or tacky glue thinned 50-50 or more with "wet" water. Dispense with a small eye dropper or similar.

First lay the ballast, then spray with "wet" water to satuarate, then dropper the thinned glue.

"wet" water is about 16 oz distilled (preferred, tap is okay usually) with a drop or two of Joy or similar dish washing detergent, and (optionally) a bit of isopropyl alcohol. Instead of detergent and alcohol, foto-flo works - but more expensive.

I'm doing my first n-scale layout and it's time to put ballast on the track.
After watching Woodlandscenics vidio I understand how to put the ballast on, but how and with what do you claen the glue off the track rails.
I tried to get on Woolands web site but it will not load, whats with that?
Appreciate any help, thanks , Jerry Bohn
