To get you started, I did a search at the
Index of Magazines
, using "constant lighting" as the search term. Here's the link:

I think you might want to start with the more recent citations and work backwards, so that you are taking advantage of the more recent advances in electronics. If you don't want to build the circuits yourself there are kit modules available.

how do i hook up directional constant lighting for dc operation.i have about 50 engines i want to do this to; steam and diesel.i'm sure moder railroader has had articles on this in the past, could anyone out there give me info on what issues to look in...i have a set from the fifty's to the present.,wiring diagrams?
