I have had no problems at all with NCE decoders -- they are fully NMRA compliant, as are most other brands. Interchangeability of decoders is the biggest advantage to NMRA DCC standards and recommended practices. As long as a decoder conforms to the NMRA standards, it will work properly with any DCC system.

I've only had personal experience with DigiTrax and Lenz decoders, but Ill pass on my personal opinion for what it's worth.

My neighbor and I both use DigiTrax to control our layouts, most of our locomotives have DigiTrax decoders. The only exceptions to that rule are the Atlas Locomotives that came with the Lenz decoders installed at the factory.

My experience has been that it's much harder to speed match the Lenz equipped locomotives to those with the DigiTrax because changes made to the speed settings, mainly mid range and max voltage will not save even though the proper response is sent from the decoader during programming. Rechecking the setting, shows that the original settings are still there.

Not having any experience with the NCE decoders, I can only recommend that you get assurances that they will work as well and accept settings the same as DigiTrax decoders.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
