Plastruct makes two style tanks. #1017 and the more conventional #1019. MR used a shortened version of these tanks for there propane dealer on the MR&T layout. Pikestuff also makes other various modern steel buildings. I had a plan for a cement business based on the one down the road that was a major kitbmash of Pikestuff 2 stall engine house, Atkinson engine facility, and some modified Walthers grain surge bins. If I build it it will look real close to the prototype I mentioned.
Codeman,
Thank you for the kind words. Since taking the photo, I have ballasted the track, added hazmat decals to the tanks and other details. I still need to add a cyclone fence. I'll take an updated shot one of these days.
I started the project by taking photos at LPG distributors that get deliveries by rail. One of them was nice enough to let me on the property and get closeups. I also found several pictures from brochures on the Internet that gave me rough dimensions. The stairs came from a Central Valley ladder and stairs assortment. The rest is either Plastruct or Evergreen styrene, depending on whatever I found in my plastic scrap collection. The black rubber "hoses" on the transfer pipes (a little hard to see in the photo) are pieces of insulation stripped from light gauge wire (around #24 gauge) and attached to the pipe with ACC.

Your plant looks great! I would have no idea of how to build a rack from scratch. You are truely talented.
I work at an oil refinery and our propane loading rack is simular to the walthers loading rack it can also be used as a butane rack or as a sulfer loading rack you can shorten one rack or combine racks to whatever length you desire.
Codeman This is the article and equipment I was referring to; http://www.trains.com/mrr/default.aspx?c=a&id=1218 as I'm looking for a loading rack that hinges like this one does. Thanks for your reply, Codeman

I don't think I've seen anything like that. There is a hinged platform in the following kit, http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/933-3104, but that is for oil loading.
I think you are going to have to go the scratchbuilding route if you want something identical to the article structure.
Did you mean something like this: http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/wrr/wrr3011.htm ?
I've got mine from Walthers, Central Gas & Supply.

Newbie here!
I'm just beginning to build a new HO layout and came across an article written by Paul Dolkos (Propane Bulk Plant Prototype Photo's) in the April 19, 2007 Model Railroader magazine. In this article he showed pictures of a loading rack for a Propane Distribution plant and related piping. Can anyone tell me where I could purchase such HO related propane equipment?
Thanks for your assistance,
