Request for research information
Posted by teekaho on Sunday, July 19, 2009 12:03 PM

Hi. I'm new to the building layouts in HO scale. In fact this is my second one I'm building, my first was a freelance model {7'9"x6'4"} proplem was I counldn't reach center area for model detailing. This one I'm working on is much larger and is a walkin floor plan {10'x10'} with an above second level obtained by a 19"h 3'r helix. problem I'm having is that I want to add an industry to a section of plan "c". The industry I have chosen is found in the magazine "MRM workshop tips\layout planning ideas" article "go large with big business" page 12 shows a brewry complex illustration by MR staff. I'm looking for a photo shot of that brewry complex so I can reproduce it by scratch build. could anyone assist me with obtaining this info please.

Thanks Teekaho of Mars!!

The plans in that article are concept ideas. They show some possible ways of setting up tracks for a brewery complex, a  paper mill, a glass factory and an auto plant. It is unlikely that they come from a built layout that someone has taken pictures from.

If you want prototype pictures of a brewhouse, then search for pictures using google images:

 Brewhouse exterior: http://images.google.no/images?gbv=2&hl=no&sa=1&q=brewhouse+exterior&btnG=S%C3%B8k+etter+bilder&aq=f&oq=

 Brewhouse facade: http://images.google.no/images?gbv=2&hl=no&sa=1&q=brewhouse+facade&btnG=S%C3%B8k+etter+bilder&aq=f&oq=

Feel free to try various other search terms on google.

Another source of old photos of industries is the Library of Congress' HABS/HAER (Historic American Buildings Survey/Historic American Engineering Records): http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/collections/habs_haer/. Search e.g. for "brewery", and you get 71 hits.

You can also search for posts on brewery on this site. Search window on the right side of screen. Here is searching for brewery in model railroader forums: http://cs.trains.com/trccs/search/SearchResults.aspx?q=brewery+AND+groupid%3a8&o=Relevance

You can also look at some model railroad dealer (like http://www.walthers.com) and search for brewery under H0 scale, structures. Here is one such building: http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/933-3024

Good luck in finding a picture you like, which can be used as inspiration for scratchbuilding a brewery.

 Grin,
 Stein

Thank you for the info links and explanation of the drawing. Its just that I really liked the idea of having the buildings wall cut mounted like in your drawing, it gives a full version look but in half the room. I just needed pics of the indivdual buildings for detailing.... when this build is finished I will send a pic for you to see your layout come alive and for others who would like to build that plan. again thanks for your time...teekaho
