Okay, so I'm still recovering, you would be too.
So yesterdday I come home from work and my garage door is hanging open and there are several piles of stuff I've been meaning to talk my wife into getting rid of in the driveway and on the lawn...
I get out of the car and she meets me with a tasty beverage and welcomes me into the garage, which she has styled into a man cave.... (The plot thickens....)
She's set up the folding tanles I plan to use as a base for my railroad in one corner, and in the corner opposite she's set up an entertainment center where I can watch movies and use my computer...
Several crates of my train stuff and a printout of my trackplan were close by...
I picked up some foam at the home center and cut it to fit my tables this morning... Then I did some organizing, then I unpacked some of the HO stuff and put some of it out just to "decorate"... Since the PB&J will be an N scale railroad I figured there was no harm in putting out some bigger stuff...
She's a keeper.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
WOW!
Now, at first glance I thought that the piles o' stuff on the lawn was your stuff, being tossed .
What a great surprise. Now the pressure's on to get building lest she take it all back.
You must be the luckiest man alive, as Lou Gerhig said.
Of course, that's if you don't include my brother, who won a big lottery payout! LOL
Darrell,quiet...for now
Dear Walt,
you'r a lucky man; great garage and an ever better wife you have
Still i am shocked.
You can still start all over. Your table is high enough for a workbench, especially in N-scale you should build your layout on a much higher (50"??) level.
Your yarddesign will not work well. Your A&D track is way too short and doubles as an engineterminal lead. Let your drilltrack run along the main, it can be much longer that way. (Use flextrack, maybe it's just the cad you'r using). There is a nice book by Andy Sperendeo about yarddesign for sale.
Add some goodies like a rip-track, an engine service track where coal, sand and lubricants can be delivered and make clear where your teamtrack, your freighthouse and your expressbuildings are.
Why did you gave up the third leg? (so easely?) And always provide a drawing of your room as well. Let the strangers dream as well, by change they might come up with an alternative you like.
My mom told me never to listen to strangers, go your own way and have fun.
(Pay the prize later, it's life man; was I blunt enough?)

Something doesn't smell right. Maybe it's just the odor of cleaning liquids, or it's just my experience. What trains were you using on the PB&J anyways? I was still kind of stuck between HO and N but after going through back issues of MR and being somewhat inspired by the photogs of Woodland Scenics modulars in Walthers '08 catalogue (no I don't intend to use them) I started leaning back towards N scale so I could have some extra room to have hidden staging tracks and continous loops so I could run long trains, like passenger consists or through freights. I have a feeling I will end up going back to a double deck plan. I quite my job after they yanked me around too much so I won't have money to go out and buy an HO loke to superdetail and weather or weather the GP9 n scale I have to see if I am happy with just weathering.
The PB&J is N scale. While laying out the plan on foam, I made some changes-lengthened the yard lead and such. I was impressed with the Woodland scenics ads as well as the DPM ads, so I hopped on ebay and bought a lot of 10 DPM kits and I went to Hobby Lobby and bought two learning kits from Woodland scenics... I won't buy their modular kits , but I am taking a leaf from their book on the construction end... look around youtube and you'll find some good video on their methods... you can do it without buying all the interlocking foam,.... I will keep posting lots of pics as I go along...
Be very careful she must want something.............. watch your credit cards........lol seriously it's nice to have the wife on your side once in a while.
Truth is she just wants to keep you out in the garage away from the rest of the house like mine does. I wonder why I have to keep prying the nails out of the basement door?
