Wanted to model Whiskey island
Posted by locoi1sa on Monday, June 29, 2009 4:53 PM

Walthers were coming out with Hullets in HO so I figured I could model Whiskey Island on the home layout. When first announced they said $170 each, but showed an artist rendering of a pair. Since Hullets were built in pairs I figured the pair was one machine. Anyone modeling a Hullet would have to buy 2 at $170 each. Whiskey Island would cost $1020 just for the Hullets. I would either need one of those big cardboard checks from Publishers or hit the lottery. I could try to convince the wife on getting a second mortgage, but I like breathing too much to ask. I know Walthers has to make up for engineering, dies and molds but how about a deal on multiples. How about a pair for $230. I feel they would sell more that way since most modelers would buy a pair. Maybe I will model Sodus point instead. Wow this hobby is getting expensive in a hurry.

Have patience, and check with Trainworld every now and then.

Walthers knows they really won't sell a lot of these.  It's a small part of a small modelling community that wants one (or two) of these.  They may, in fact, be aiming at clubs.  So, they have to recoup their expenses in far fewer units than, say, an F7.

So, watch the sales.  If Trainworld gets them, they will be in the price range you've suggested.  But, if you see them at that price, grab them, because you won't see them again for a long time.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
