This is my first try at any kind of layout. I've been a fan for 30 yrs. so I guess it's better late than never ! This is a Woodland Scenics River Pass Layout. I'm just starting so I really dont have much as far as locs or rolling stock. Its a first time modeling anything" mce_src="">

67 - What material are you using to cover the foam? The rolling terrain looks very good.

It looks like you painted the plaster cloth black. What's your theory behind that? Regardless, it works.
The color is a dark green but I guess with the lighting it looks black.
i hope mine comes out looking half as good as yours! Any tips or problems on the build ?
Very nice job for your first! Be sure to keep posting pics as you go along. (Side note: don't know if you watched it or not, but DYI network---The show "Working on the Railroad" had a series on building this layout from start to finish. It was full of tips and tricks....) Good luck and HAVE FUN!

You better confess - you are a long time member of the MRRA - the Model Railroaders Anonymous - and you have been secretly building layouts for the last to decades!
Beautiful work - congrats!
hey man, good ****. I would be very proud if this really is your FIRST attempt ever at doing any model railroad scenery. I mean not thats its really hard with WS telling you exactly what to do, lol.
but with that in mind, this is the PERFECT example for beginners in the hobby: Look how freakin' easy it is!!!
So many people fret for hours, which turn into days, which turn into weeks, which turn into months, which turn into years... and never end up actually ever screwing in one screw on a layout of their own, because they're worrying so much about how they're going to do everything beforehand, and wondering how it will come out.
Just freakin' get on with it already!!! It really isn't that hard!!!
I mean dude, for real, you are the perfect example. You are an absolute novice, and your scenery is just as good as people who've been at this for their whole lives.
Now, I actually have a question of my own: In the last picture you posted, of the big rock cut, do you know what colors, specifically you used to get the look you did? And how exactly did you go about doing it? **** looks good dude.

Thanks a million guys!!! I used yellow then brunt umber then finally black. I spotted on the yellow first, then brunt umber then douse the whole rock with black. Right from the Woodland Scenics manual.C1207 - The Scenery Manual.
Can's say I made this one. Its right from Woodland Scenics.
