I am builing a series of large waterfalls under the trestle. Photo 2640 shows and old waterfall that I built using Fishing Line. Photo 2644 & 2641 show my new problem. I have not been able to secure the lines to both the top and bottom of the falls. I have tryed CA, White Glue & Caulking with no luck. Photos 2636 & 2637 give you a wider view.  As you can see there are a lot of line that needs to be attached. Thanks in advance for your help.

I am at work so I can't see any pictures or graphics so I am just guessing here- But low temp hot melt glue springs immediately to mind.  Hope that helps.

I once caught a train in my pajama's. How it got in my pajama's I'll never know... (sorry, Groucho)

What adhesive did you use for your first waterfall?  I was going to suggest clear latex caulk, but you said caulk didn't work.

In my notebook that I keep to refer me to good ideas MR had an article in Dec 98 on waterfalls from fishline, but I can't get to the article at the moment.  If you don't come up with a solution PM me and I will try to find it.

Good luck,

I am pretty sure I used caulk on the first one but with the long strands I can't keep it in place long enough for it to set and stay straight.

Hi hwolf: Here's an alternative for water falls and rushing water. Purchase a tube of clear silicone, and some waxed paper. Spread a thin layer on the waxed paper with your finger. Spread it in lines going the same direction. Make it longer and wider than the area of the falls. After it dries, use scissors to cut to fit. You can use the same silicone to glue it in place.

Great idea.  I have already been to the table to try it.  It is now drying.  Thanks. By the way. How do you get the image to appear directly on the post rather than a link?  I am also doing a second one with the fishing line being put in the chaulking while it is on the wax paper. Then after I chaulk the Top & Bottom I am going to try and slice between the strands. This might give it some real depth.

Looks great.  How and/or when did you add the blue coloring?

A thought, if you are trying to  hold the strands straight while the silicone is drying on the wax paper, how about using a strip of wood, styrene, cardboard, whatever, to hold down the ends.  Cut a bunch of pieces to length, tack them down at one end, smooth them out, tack the other end down.  Apply your silicone over the strands, if you want a few strands to not be straight to show divirsion around a rock or some such, move them sideways with a skewer or other pointed tool.

Good luck,

Hi Harry: The water is clear. The blue is a reflection off the blue back drop.

I was not happy with my first try. It took to much away from the underlying color.  Tomorrow I am going to try with the strands of poly fishing line.  Keep those cards & letters coming.  Thanks

Two things .... it hardly looks to be cut to fit the space, and (kinda hard to tell) is the silicone still attached to the wax paper ??? - you gotta peel it off the wax paper after it has set !  Whistling

I did't bother trying to fit it because of the way it looked. I also had not peeled it. I think I might have put it on to thin to peel. Thanks
