Installing MicroTrains mag uncouplers

N-scale
"Delayed Action Magne-Matic Uncouplers"
The instructions say: "Cut this slot to a depth of .120" down from rail top".
Anyone got a good way to do this on Atlas code 80?  I've been scraping away at the ties with an xacto knife until the Kadee height gauge is on top of mag & rails flush (so mag is even with rail top, like says in instructions).

Should i lower the mags even more? (just cut out the ties all together?  Any nifty installation tips?

Also, the ends of the mags I got in the package are not beveled like in the picts.  Are the instructions for all types / scales? or am I supposed to bevel?

Thanks!

Does nobody use these anymore?

Hidden magnets?  I've seen the drop-away on this forum before.  Or is the "uncoupling tool" the modern style?

Or any thoughts on shaving ties down?
