Modeling the Klamath River area in HO on a proto-lanced sub of the SP “The State of Jefferson Line”
Frankly, I think that in building a layout, one should use Flextrack, rather than using fixed sections. With a track cutter and fine file, one can fit the curves to ones available space and desired design, whereas, with rigid track sections, one cannot change the radius of a curve. Joining each section of sectional track requires the use of joiners. Joiners are not only expensive, but are poor conductors of electricity. With 30 inch sections of Flextrack, one needs only to solder feeders from bus wires every 30". This will provide reliable conductivity of electric current. One other point, is to solder jumper wires to join switches to other rails. If you need to move or replace a swirch, it is much easier to snip the joiner "jumper" wire. Never solder joiners to rails directly. It is nearly impossible to undo, (and reassemble) a soldered joint, and heat and humidity will cause buckling of the track. For HO scale, N scale joiners will make a tighter fit. Leave a short space between rails within the joiner, to accomodate expansion. Bob Hahn
