Best Way to Clean EZ Track?

I am taking apart a layout in which I used EZ Track, and I was wonder what the best way was to clean the built-on roadbed so I could sell it.

If you're wondering how to get any added ballast off, this is supposing you you water based glue, soak it in water to loosen the glue and wash it off. If you used matte-medium you can try soaking it in alcohol but I would write it off. I used matte-medium on a layout in the past on the advice of an 'expert' and was never happy with it. When I took the track up I destroyed most of it trying to get the matte-medium to break loose.

Got one of these?

Bachmann EZ track is the worst.  I'd sell it as is.  Don't put any extra labor into it.  You won't recover the original cost of it.  Write it off as an "education" expense!Black Eye

If I'm reading this correctly your trying to restore the luster to the black of the easy track pre-molded ballast? Try mild dish detergent and a bucket of hot water.let it sit in a bowl, container.pot what ever for a while and then just rinse it off in cold water. After all that work you should be able to get at least .25 cents for it. My kids gave up trying to seel it and gave it all to the kid down the block who is enjoying the heck out of it.

Just my 2 cents worth, I spent the rest on trains. If you choked a Smurf what color would he turn?

Sorry for the missleading title, but what I meant was "how do you get excess grass and scenery off of the EZ Track built-in ballast."

So washing it off with soap and hot water?  That won't hurt the conductibility of the track, will it?

I wouldn't try to run trains on it while it's wet, but no, if you use HOT water and dry it thoroughly, you should be fine.

If, however, you really are going to sell it, I think the advice to just sell "as is" is spot on.  You can spend a lot of time cleaning the stuff and you still won't get full retail value for used track. Let the person who buys it clean it up if he wants to.
