Street Running
Posted by NHfan320 on Thursday, February 12, 2009 7:38 PM

Does anybody have a way to model a street running section?  I'm looking for a cheap way to make a realistic street running section on my layout.  Is there a special product that a company sells just for this?  Is it cheap if they do?

 I've worked with plaster, gypsum.

I worked with this tool, made from left over ballast steel for a box car:

You see my pictures in progress here like a How To.

You may also use girder rails, from PROTO:87 or make them yourself.

What scale are you working in?  I've used sheet styrene with some success in N scale, but I think Wolfgang's method would work in any scale, as long as you take a lot of care around your turnouts.

Sorry, I'm working in HO scale.  I guess that would be an important detail.

All I did was use what I normally used for my streets.  All that I had to do different was to put the track down first.  I made myself my own tool, like wolfgang, and scraped off all of the extra street that fell inbetween the space that I don't want it.  It worked great, and I haven't had any problems yet (about 1 year).
