Marking the centerline on Peco code 83 track
Posted by chomper on Sunday, February 8, 2009 7:21 PM
I am in the process of test fitting my track on a section of my layout. This is my first layout and I am using Peco code 83 turnouts, flex track and a predetermined layout plan. How do I find and mark the centerline of this track so I can begin to lay my roadbed down? The track does not seem to have any centerline holes or marks I can use for a reference. I just want to make sure I accurately mark the track so my roadbed is where it is supposed to be. Thanks to anyone who helps. Chomper.

Why don't you just measure the width of the track?  Take 1/2 that width, make a second line exactly that distance from the center line and then use one edge of the track on the new line.

Hello "chomper," I like to use a Kadee track gauge, which includes a pointer that points to the center line when its placed on the rails. The Kadee no. 343 gauge fits code 83 rails – see it at http://kadee.com/htmbord/page122.htm Good luck with your layout, Andy
