Thanks to everyone.  I will start with the Testers and then move on if necessary.

I purchased the Micro Mark decal kit and was very discouraged.  The process worked fine, printing and spraying the coating but the decal was to thick and would not conform to the texture of the underlaying surface.

I would like to try something thinner.  The most recent Micro Mark catalog has another decal sheet that claims to be very thin.  I may give it a try.

Testors makes a decal kit to be used with ink jet printers. You can also get the paper and decal bonder spray separately. The paper is available in clear and white, addressing the problem that most printers will not print white (the paper a printer usually uses supplies the white color for normal printing).

The CD included in the kit is obviously more for model car builders, rather than model railroad use, but I've made decals using the clear paper and bonder quite successfully. Print them using the "photo" setup for your printer for the sharpest image and best colors.

Not if he paints the white on the container as a spot color.  Simply mask off the flag area, and apply the decal over it.

This could also be accomplished by printing the flag on white decal paper, then carefully trimming out the image.

Making Decals Using Ink jet Printer
Posted by camaro on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 9:28 AM

I have several logos that were sent to me for use on the sides of bulk shipping containers.  I would like to print them from home and would like to use my Dell 924 Photo Printer.  Would it be easier to send this to a decal business for processing?  I have several undecorated containers that I can airbrush yellow so my primary interest would be the lettering and center logo.

Can someone tell how to go about doing this using Decal Sheets. Here is a copy of what I am trying to get decals made of.

Any help would be appreciated.
