I tried to follow Woodland Scenics instructions in constructing a small pond but the color just didn't work out too well. See photo. Could I paint the surface of the finished Realistic Water to change the color. Any thoughts on what color(s) to use?

I have posted this method on this site as well as FSM several times but here goes at any rate;
Water in a can. "Polycrylic Water-based Wood Finish" by Minwax, this stuff is wonderful to use as there is a minimal odor, water clean-up and the drying time between layers is reasonable. Here are ways that I have used the product;
1.) Mix the contents of the can, it appears milky but that is OK.
2.) Pour small amounts onto a prepainted surface, i.e. painted streambed, pond bed, etc. be sure to use acrylic based paints, the craft paints are the best and inexpensive. Let the layers run over the surface and use a paint brush to help distribute the polycrylic.
3.) By pouring 1/8th inch layers the surface can be built up to as mush or little coating as you wish. I have poured this material onto dry sand surfaces as well to represent a streambed in the desert (yes we have rain in New Mexico)
4.) For the price you get a fair amount of the product which will last for quite some time. I would suggest that you visit the hardware departments of local store to see what exists in the isles for hobbies, you will find that acrylic products are available and very cost effective over time.
5.) I would suggest that you buy a small can of the product and experiment with it, since using it I will never use the scenery type products as I don't think they stack up to the hardware products over the long time use.
