Track, DCC, and where to buy

Atlas flex track and Peko insulfrog turnouts are your best bet for trouble free operation.

The only thing I don't like about the Peko turnouts is that they are too short after the frog, requiring that you trim the ties of the flex track in order to make the connection. Other than that, they work fine. My neighbor has used them for years with good service.

If you want something that looks more prototypical, Micro Engineering track and turnouts are the way to go. The turnouts require more attention to detail and wiring, but they look great, I've used them on the visible parts of my layout.

The final decision is yours, either way will work very well.

That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

The clicking sequence as follows when you get to the website: University. Store. Installation. NScale.

After clicking on N scale you will have your choices of viewing steam or diesel installations. Additionally if you e-mail Bruce. He'll be happy to answer questions whether you are a "Do it yourselfer" or not. He sells DCC supplies at great prices!

Basically Walthers, and Peco are great track products. The newer line Atlas is also pretty decent, though I'm not too fond of the "older-line" Atlas turnouts.

Forget my question 2 above re: DCC. It is well covered by others in a recent topic. Sorry, I'm new to the forum and a bit overwhelmed. I'm sure the track question is covered somewhere but maybe there's some new thoughts. Thanks.

I'm getting back into the hobby (N scale) after many years on the sidelines. We live in a rather remote location about 100 miles from a hobby shop. I'm going to start with a small N layout and feel my way. Here's three questions:

1. What brand of track and turnouts do you recommend? Will likely use flextrack and manual operated turnouts.
2. Please recommend a good DCC starter set. Price is not too important and want it expandable as layout expands. Ease of use is important for now.
3. Who's a good all around web based mail order outlet? I'd like someone who's prices are reasonable, good selection, and available for the occassional phone calls.
