Art Harnack's book on Milwaukee's Beer Line, sold by the Milwaukee Road Historical Society, has some interesting photos and information.  But for free .... go to Google, select "Images" and then type in various phrases.  One that produces interesting results is "Warehouse district."  Lots of urban switching type photos.

Another good search term, and you are just going to have to trust me on this, is "Kansas City Bottoms."  Yes there are a few images that are, well shall we say, not "work safe" but the bottoms in KC are, or were, a wonderful area for urban industrial railroading.

The internet is filled with blogs from folks who take pictures of ordinary or interesting scenes in their cities.  For example this site has a huge variety of photos of Milwaukee, with many industries and other rail served businesses shown.  it is not the focus perhaps but you can get some ideas

Here is a similar site about St Louis, a great railroad city.  http://www.builtstlouis.net/

A source from a guy who posts on here from time to time, Mark "Fuzzy" Hintz.  Mark has a website with lots of photos of trains and other scenes in Milwaukee and I think you'll get some good ideas by looking in the background of his various photos, and not just the railroad photos.

Kalbach has a few books on industries along the track. Volumes 1,2 and 3. Might be better than just looking at online pics.

Looking for pictures.

I am wondering if anyone out there has a link or a picture, of an urban industry... To expalin further; The layout I'm planning will have mostly urban modeling. I have looked everywhere online for pictures and can't find what I am looking for. I suppose the real thing would be the best thing to go look at. One small problem, I don't live near a large enough city.

I am looking for pic's of industries that are urban and in large cities. Industries where the rails are laid in concrete are good. This is kind of hard to explain

Era: Current, Diesel locos

HO scale

 Thanks.
