Printing Templates for track pieces
Posted by ken_23434 on Friday, November 28, 2008 10:10 PM

I would like to print out 1:1 templates for various standard track pieces so I can play around with my options on my layout.  I have the atlas track program and XtrkCad, but cannot figure out how to print out a full size template.  I was hoping that JPG, BMP, GIF files were available of the pieces offered  by various companies, specifically various turnouts.

Thanks for the assistance.

If you are looking for pieces to put down on your layout and  move around to see how things will work, I have heard of folks putting the actual pieces on the copier and you have your 1:1 shapes.  Can put several pieces on each page.  I'd suggest switches, wyes, and crossings on one page and a whole bunch of straight or same radius curves on seperate pages as you will use more of them.  As for brands you don't have in hand, see if you can't find their shape and size in a catalog, then copy it on a copier that allows you to enlarge, until you reach the right size.

Good luck,

What you really need is to scan one of each peice you need and make copies of it. You only need one of each turnout because you can take a right hand turnout and use MS Paint or something like that and "flip" it to make it a left hand. I did this and someone on the forum sent me some scans of stuff I didn't have.
I might be able to help you out with some Atlas #4 and #6 turnouts if your using Atlas. Let me know.

Here is a collection of templates for turnouts, wyes, and crossovers, covering most scales modelled, all are in PDF.

Hope this might help, from memory I think they are specifically designed with micro engineering rail in mind, but I have used them with other track with reasonable results

Copiers do not copy 1 to 1. They are down in scale about 3% so you cannot copy money to use in a machine.

As long as you know that, you are alright.
