Pathways to Design, Part II
Posted by rrinker on Sunday, November 23, 2008 11:35 AM

After doing some recheckign of my space, I found that I can actually go 8 feet on the short leg of the L without interfering with the kitchen door. This is a case of "I didn't want to use every last inch of space" but since it's there - why not. Technically the long leg could be 13 feet and fit but I really don't wnat to cut odd size short bits of foam, and I am wafflign a bit on including a base of 1/4" ply under the foam. I didn't on my previous layout and had no issues with just plain foam. I'll stick to the 12' dimension there so I can use standard lengths of wood.

With the new measurements in mind, I redid the plan based on Stein's plan. The extra 2 feet really comes in handy. The plan below now is back to #4.5 turnouts (Atlas Code 83 #4 or handlaid), the third yard track fits comfortably, and the minimum radius is up to 24" from 22".

Plan:
