New Atlas Turntable
Posted by Butlerhawk on Monday, November 10, 2008 2:21 PM
After hours and hours of working with a Walthers 90' turntable kit, I am going to give up. It will work, but there is so much play and movement in the parts that it is near impossible to line the TT with the track SO I am going to replace it with an Atlas TT. I know the Atlas will not accommodate larger locos w/tenders, but I can get along with the shorter Atlas. By the way, I have ordered the Atlas TT and drive unit from Trainworld and found the price of the TT as well as the price of the drive unit to be about $10 less for each item than the Walthers price. I will have a bit of a job to fill in the hole where the Walthers is installed as well as to put the foundation back on the Atlas 3 stall turntable that I have. Wish me luck with this project but I guess this is what makes model RR fun and a great hobby.

Where is the slop in your Walthers? I'm putting one together now and it doesn't have much at all. Maybe I can help if you give me some more info?

The Atlas TT is rather plain and unattractive as it comes out of the box, though has a very reliable mechanism. Many here have done nice kitbash type modifications to make it look more attractive. A search may turn up examples. Here's mine done last year-
