I was checking the archives for answer but did not find it. Installing the Tortoise on a surface thicker than 1" requires a longer music wire. Where do you buy .025" music wire, I could only find it in an industrial equipment supplier catalog which sold it in bulk?
Check your local hobby shop.
If not there, how bout a music store?
Check out the Deming Sub by clicking on the pics:
A hobby shop that carries model airplane stuff will have it. It usually comes in three foot sections. You may want to pick up a piece of.032 music wire as well. The reason being, when you make the tortoise wire longer, it can get too flimsy so you need a stiffer one.

The above is my opinion, from an active and experienced Model Railroader in N scale and HO since 1961.
(Modeling Freelance, Eastern US, HO scale, in 1962, with NCE DCC for locomotive control and a stand alone LocoNet for block detection and signals.) http://waynes-trains.com/ at home, and N scale at the Club.
If you are lucky enough to live near a "real" hardware store (I do) they should have some. As a matter of fact I just bought some last Sat. .039 is what I bought, my layout is made with 1/2" plywood and 1/2" homasote plus cork roadbed.
To all of the above.
Definitely increase the size to .039 or thereabouts. It will easily go 2-1/2 inches. .025 is too flexible to use in longer lengths.

willy6 Where do you buy .025" music wire,
I have to go through 1/2" plywood, 3/4" foam and 5mm of roadbed. Thank you for your help, I'll try the "real" Hardware store first.
