This kind of construction will guarantee that your layout will collapse.
So will standing on it (especially if you are a heavyweight).
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
The Kalpubco book John Armstrong on Creative Layout Design, one of the Master's designs, The Murphy Bed and Credenza, addresses the problem of getting the "running" part of the railroad folded up out of sight and leaving a level spot for a yard so all the rolling stock can be kept on the rails. If you can find a copy of that book (new, library or Amazon) it should give you some ideas.

Does anyone have any ideas for where I can get plans for some kind of a collapsible benchwork frame. I have a room where my layout will be but I will need that room occasionaly for other things. I am looking for something that I can maybe "fold up" and wheel against a wall or out of the way. It needs to be free standing and on wheels. Is there any such animal out there?
Thanks for your help if given.
