My yard, one more time

My yard, one more time

How about mirroring the yard layout, that is swapping it end to end. By doing so I gain more length on the yard tracks but the turn into the yard on the right side may have to be cut down to a 20" radius.

yard as built.

yard mirrored, left to right / Edit: top to bottom right to left.

Doing this would mean taking up what's already down and relaying it but the other way around and forget about module #6.as I want the space for walking more then the turning wye. I may put a bump-out on module #4. for a rock quarry about a foot wide.

I like that better. You won't have to cross accross the main line to get from industrial leads to yard tracks. This second version shows you can work the industries and move cars around yard all the while the main is open for through freight.

The thing that bothers me most about both plans has to do with the drawing of multiple operators. If this is the case, then the yard operator is going to be busy building and breaking down trains. When he has down time, he can switch out the Railroad Ave. industries.

There's the rub. If he has down time that means the next train is ready to go out and it is sitting on the A/D track. The A/D track is the only runaround that will allow those industries to be switched.

Before

After

Marked yard lead and main, only one A/D track and removed turnout over bench work joint. Only one operator to start with, may set it up for two some time down the road. (DC controls)
