trees by the bucket

I am interested in the technique used in an article found in MR's February issue "Trees by the Bucket."  Has anyone tried this technique? The article applies the technique to an N scale layout.  Would it "translate" ok to an HO layout?  Any good suggestions for turf for autumn colors.  I'm doing a large area (6"X22").

Yeah, it works.  It'll work for HO scale too.

As for autumn colors, Woodland Scenics (click the links) carries fall colors, as does Scenery Express and Noch and Sweetwater Scenery, or you could make your own!

What's the basic technique? I don't have that issue.
