I was just looking at the March Walthers flyer last night. They have some Bar Mills roof vents on sale right now.
It's not exactly rooftop, but I found that adding fire escapes really does a lot:
This is "Baldy's Barber Shop" from Model Power, viewed from the rear. The fire escapes are Walthers "Vintage," as opposed to the modern ones. Tichy also makes a fire escape, but I think it's too wide. You could easily cut it down, though. The Walthers ones are more expensive, but they do look much nicer. The Walthers ones are on sale right now.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Read Art Curren's articles and book on kitbashing and you'll see wonderful roof top details made from stuff you might have sitting in your scrap box -- or even your recycling bin!
