Before you do that try finding a packaging company in your area that specializes in foam packaging.  They should be able to sell you sheets of expanded polyethylene foam.  it comes in various densities and is almost as light.  It has a slight springiness to it that could help deaden sound also.  They get it in 8' x 8' x 12' buns (because they look like a loaf of bread) and then cut slabs off of it.  you could get it in any thickness and dimension you desire since they cut it on a huge band saw. The one disadvantage is that it will probably have some minor surface holes from the expansion process to deal with.  the big advantage is it will bend some and not snap in two pieces.

I know it would be a little bit of a drive for you in San Diego but it depends on how much you want it.  I live in Lancaster and it is the closes place I could find to get foam.

Success!  It's only in 2' x 8' but that's alright since it will be easier to put into my SUV.  And they have a nice range of thicknesses.  I will keep looking around here for another few weeks and then I'll make the trip.

Thanks.

Have you tried these folks:  http://www.ridoutplastics.com/prodlinforri.html

Nope, he said to try FoamCo.

I'm surprised they don't sell it. I know it doesn't get cold, but it gets hot and insulation helps with that too. I guess that's why you have brownouts down there. Too much power draw to cool things off.

Hey Old Man, if you do go to order foam from HD go to the pro desk where you'll have a better chance of someone knowing what you're talking about.Don't just ask the first associate you see and surely not a cashier.

Tried that, didn't work.  But thanks.

Sounds like an opportunity.  If you have the funds you could have a truckload delivered and start your own business (after you get the five million permits that CAwould require).

The foam is used as a moisture barrier\insulation layer under vinyl siding...since San Diego never gets cold, I doubt you'd find any insulation board.

The special order idea will work,  you might end up paying a bit more form it though.

OM, If you have a handy Lowe's or Home Depot, they can order you some as all their northern stores carry it. Depending on quantity needed you may have to pay shipping. You can probably have it set up for either home delivery or store pickup. No worries, Mate! OM of the north. jc5729 John Colley, Port Townsend, WA
