Northeastern Scale Models vs. Bar Mills
Posted by jacon12 on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 2:28 PM

If you've assembled beginner laser cut wood structure kits from these companies, are they about the same as far as quality, instructions and ease of construction?  I'd like to try my hand at one of the simpler structures, like Northeasterns HO scale Yard Storage building, but I know Bar Mills has some neat little buildings also.  I know Bar Mills structures have the little tabs to make things a little easier but not sure about NSM.  They don't say a lot on their website.

Thanks,

I have built Bar Mills models and they went together really well, I made mistakes but I like them.

Jarrell,

I recently built a structure from each of these manufacturers for my n-scale layout.  I got Mooney's plumbing supply from Bar Mills, and a switch tower from Northeastern Scale Models.  The Mooney's kit was a more advanced kit, but the instructions were in a lot more detail than the Switch Tower kit.  Bar Mills also put in a lot of extra suggestions for building structures into the kit.  Both of them went together well and came out looking good, so I would recommend either.

Thanks, Kevin

I know I'm going to make plenty of mistakes but I gotta start somewhere.  Big Smile [:D]

These structures just look sooooo good!

Thanks Kevin.

 Thanks for the reply!

I think I'm going to pick one of Bar Mills smaller kits for the first one.  Maybe I won't mess it up too badly.
