Tomkat,

Just a suggestion....if it were my layout, I'd change the turnout opposite the white paintbrush from a right hand to a left hand turnout and eliminate the S curve and what appear to be a couple of kinks in the track alignment.....

Don Z.

Edit: After looking at the photo again, I would add this: The turnout on the far right track should have the same frog # as the first right hand turnout at the bottom center track. The intermediate turnout that is between them (the one I suggested changing from a right to a left) should also have the same frog angle as the other turnouts. That would eliminate any chance of kinks and bring the diverging leg of the intermediate turnout back parallel with the center track and allow the straight through leg to be aligned with the far turnout.

Yeah I was just going to say...  in the 2nd picture, the 3 turnouts in a row on the ride side, nearest the yardstick, have kinked connections between them.  it'll save a lot of aggravation if you get those fixed now.

man i sure am glad i came here before i actually started building, otherwise i'd never have thought to look for things like that

The track to the right is a passing track & I used 2 1/2 in centers.

Thanks for the help, suggestions & info....The far turnout to the left is set that way to go arround buildings & one track will go inside & the other on the outside of a 28" long building. The ties at the link between the flex track & turn outs are loose ones slid under and make the track look more out of line ( I will line them up & afix them to the roadbed before I ballast), I have run a track gauge & cars over the track with no problems.... This is just the first section of an around the wall shelf-style layout.

Tomkat,

I think you misunderstood my explanation. I added arrows to your photo. All three turnouts on this leg should have the same frog # and the one in the middle should be a left instead of a right to eliminate the kinks and S curve. I like the swinging track at the far left....nothing wrong with that one.
