The 2008 model railroad planning issue had an article about making a sectional layout around the perimiter of the basement. He used a rubber coated shelf made from steel supports and rested the foam modules on top of that. Seemed like a nifty idea for the "around the basment" layout. It allowed him to make changes to the layout by just replacing a section.. might be worth a read.

New Track Plan
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 1:37 PM

Hi folks,

I am about to start a new track plan in the basement of my home in about three weeks. This will include running the trains on a raised platform around the entire basement. I know it will be a lifelong effort but I want to get the basics down so I dont have to go back and do alot of editing.

I would appreciate any advice, photos, ideas, ect some of you more experienced could offer me. Underneath I will have areas for parts, catologs, extra cars. I use Lionel Fastrack 36,42,60,72 and 84.

Sincerely,

Frank P Marrone Jr.
