Two novice bashing questions

I think you have tie decimal placed too far to the left on those thicknesses; they should be 0.010 or 0.020. that's one hundredth to two hundredths of an inch, not thousants (one thousanth = 0.001). On that note, even 0.040 thickness would work well and it would give better strength to the integrity of the cab.

Whatever thickness you can work with best.  .0010 to .0020 would be a good start.

I'd like to try my hand at bashing a 4-4-0 On30 loco.

 1. What thickness styrene should I use to build a metal cab?

 2. How do people paint the very fine pin striping and designs often seen on 1870 +/- tenders? That seems way beyond my ability.
