My daughter mentioned that my previous layout was a lawless area and that needed to be corrected. There was not a police car or police officer anywhere in sight. I just corrected that on the new layout with the arrival of a couple of police cars and officers to maintain law and order. Now I guess I have to also add a donut shoppe to one of the vacant store fronts.
I thought it was a valid request since my daughter is a real life police officer on the streets everyday. She also served as an MP in Iraq We are very proud of her.
Nice. Gotta have at least some police about. As a former Sim City addict I know what lack of police protection does to property values. :)
I was thinking of doing a little 'Cops' scene in a boring area of my little layout...couple of cars with some guy on the ground next to his busted hoopty. Little drama for for an otherwise dull switcher. ;)M
I asked my daughter once if she was offended by the various donut cop jokes.
She said no - she likes donuts, but hates to direct traffic.

A radio station I used to listen to had a mourning contest where they called random donut shops and you had to guess if there were any cops in them at the time. Guess right, win a prise!
One thing I don't like about the police and fire vehicles that are sold is they have a specific (usually real) city name on them. What if you just want a generic?

And a staff that are dead on thier feet suffering the sugar crash within the hour rendering them ineffective for the rest of day.
I have just one Mini metals police car so far.

We're proud of her too, for her efforts both here and in Iraq. Please thank her for me.

Krispy Kreme is fine if you just want a sugar filled sawdust donut. But if you want a REAL donut and great coffee, you just HAVE to put a TIM HORTON'S DONUT SHOP with a Drive Thru on your layout. TIM HORTONS or Timmy's as it is known up here in the GREAT WHITE NORTH is the ONLY place to go to for a real coffee and donut anywhere in Canada. But, on the bright side, Timmys is making inroads into the great US of A so there are some areas where you can get the goodies without having to make the trip North.
For those of you who don't know who Tim Horton was,he was one of the greatest defencemen who ever played for the Toronto Maple Leaf hockey team back when they were winning Stanley Cups back in the 60's . 1967 was the last time they won.
Blue Flamer.
When I get around to putting a cop car on mine it will be an International Pick up with a red spot light and 10 bales of hay with a pitchfork stuck in them. Remember seeing that several times in the late 40's and early 50's.
It was that way in my home town and heard it was common in most small towns out in the country.
The ONLY way to find out who makes the best donuts in town is to ask a cop.
Since this seems to be turning into a donut thread I will throw in my 2 pennies, Grebe's Bakery & Delicatessen in Wisconsin, great donuts, boy do I miss going there, especially on Sunday mornings for some hot ham and rolls! It seems that the one in my home town of South Milwaukee, always had a police car out in front.
The Real Story
Many years ago the Southland Corp. who operated the "7-11"s throughout the U.S. were losing millions of dollars each year because of the epidemic of armed holdup and robberies of their stores after midnight. Customers were too terrified to enter any all night business between 12 and 7am.
Then an enterprising Crime Prevention Officer came up with the idea for 7-11 stores to give the police free coffee and donuts during the late night hours. This insured that police would frequent the stores and deter potential robberies. Southland liked the idea, the plan was instituted and within a year the robberies dropped to almost nothing.
Customers again felt safe because of the added police presence and returned during the late hours. Other companies picked up on the plan and the rest is history.
So now you know the real story in back of it.

There is no way that I will question your expertise on things MRR related, but as a serviceman who spent 30+ years doing shift work on the road, I have frequented literally hundreds of restaurants and coffee shops all across Toronto, Canada trying to stay awake with their coffee. Some actually succeeded due to their extremely bad taste or the pile of coffee grounds you got to chew through at the bottom of the cup.
In my humble opinion, Timmy's has got to be among the top two or three. Fresh pot of coffee every 1/2 hour, (if it lasts that long. Usually 10 to 15 Minutes.). And the pastries are not filled with 3 times the required sugar.
As we say, It's your railroad, your choices. Timmy's is my choice for Coffee & Donuts. You are more than welcome to your choices. It would be a sad world if we all liked the same thing. Wouldn't it?
No offence intended. No offence taken. Just my
Oh, No! Another cop car is spotted heading for the not-yet-opened donut shop in town.
I have one Kentucky State Police car on my layout (it is set in Kentucky). It is a Busch car. It is really nice. It use to have four tires, but my two year old son somehow got hold of it while I was at work last year. I came home, and one tire is gone! Now it is on the layout with three tires. I guess I should place it with a tow-truck or at a tire store.
About donuts--one of my favorites is a local chain called Dough Daddy. It is like Krispy Kreame, but has more filling and frosting on their donuts and long johns.
