N Scale Bachmann Spectrum N&W 4-8-4 J Problems!
Posted by jdtractorboy on Monday, January 7, 2008 1:03 PM

Howdy all,

I recently purchased a new 4-8-4 Spectrum N scale J and finally got my layout to the point where I could run trains.  When I pulled this unit out to test it, I noticed I can see bare copper wire in places on the wires to the tender.  Every so often when in operation, it will throw a short and trip my DCS 100 command unit on my Digitrax System.

Has anyone else had this problem?  Should I send it to Bachmann?  If so, who should I contact there?

 Thanks

Chuck

Visibly bare wires from track-side are no-no's on model trains of any scale. Send it back.

Unless you feel sufficiently skilled and interested to lift the cover off the tender and see what has happened.  I wouldn't continue to run it unless the bared portions that are causing sparks or shorting get covered.
