Gaps ( in dutch een kloof)
Posted by argilla01 on Friday, December 21, 2007 8:58 AM

Sorry for my English.

Hello,

I remembered vagely  that in MRR magazine there was onces an article abouth building a gap ( in dutch een kloof voor wie me helpen kan in de vertaling) wich was published in a  MRR magazine.

Since we are planning to build a forum modulair layout ( modules)in Belguim, I proposed to build a gap. Every member builds his own fantasy layout according to the standards that we agreed.

Therefor I like to ask here in the forum if anyone remebers the number or the year that article was published, number of the magazine. There was also I think (!!) a guy named Farlow or Ferlow or something like that  (oef...... I cant remeber al those things) had build or was building such a gap ????

Or if anyone can help in a other way pls feel free ! Thx

Greetings,  and a merry christmas and happy new year from Belguim

Marc

Here is a link to a web page showing Malcolm Furlow's 1983 article.  It might be the one you're looking for.  Check the hairstyles - things change in 24 years!

"Kloof" probably translates better as "canyon" in model railroad terms, assuming the Furlow article is what you're looking for.  If so, take a look at some of Art Hill's posts here.  He has been building great "Kloofs" with construction foam, a relatively new material unavailable to the railroaders of 1983.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

I didn't catch the scale you intend to use but you can;t go wrong using the NTRAK standards for modules.  An intenet search should turn up more tha one site listing them.
