dcc wiring of boosters hooked together
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, December 15, 2007 5:17 PM
I'm having a problem when hooking a dsc200 to a secondary booster a db150. I have a connection between the boosters from the b- port exit in front. I have the tracks double gapped at both ends. I have a separate power buss of 12 ga wire . I have a separate transformer to the second booster. I have a jumper wire in the config port to the ground port as I was told to do by digitrax. I have checked the phone cables between the plug ins and I can run trains off two throttles but can't cross into the new district on either end without the loco stopping. I see no evidence of a short. I need a solution PLEASE, thanks Bob

Maybe not a short, but is the "polarity" aligned properly? Same power output to the same side of the rail in both blocks?

You might be out of phase.

Double check your wiring to your rails on both power districts. Make SURE that your track is carrying the same polarity where they meet each other between the power districts.

If you dont understand this, wait a time, someone else will elaborate better than I ever can.

Been here and had this problem.  Either the outputs on one of the boosters is backwards (i.e. wrong track polarity) or the Loconet cable between the boosters is not a straight cable or the rail synce leads aren't cut through.  Note there have been some Digitrax boosters with the outputs wired backwards on the terminal strip so don't hesitate to try reversing the polarity to see if it fixes the problem.  For the railsync issue, does the cable between the boosters connect directly between them or are you running through a UP panel ?   Note that on the UP panels, the jack on the side is not wired for rail sync so boosters must be connected to the jacks on the back.  Make sure the cable is a straight cable not a crossover.  If it is a crossover then the railsync signal will be out of phase with one of the boosters, causing this to happen.  Again, been there and done that.  I was connecting my third booster when I ran into this problem.

JEFF, THANKS FOR THE IDEAS, THIS PROBLEM HAS ME BAFFELED. I DO HAVE A STRAIGHT HOOK UP BETWEEN BOOSTERS. I HAVE TRIED TWO DIFFERENT BOOSTERS WITH THE SAME RESULT. I HAVE NOT TRIED REVERSING THE RAIL A AND B AT THE BOOSTER, BUT HAVE THE CONNECTIONS HOOKED UP WITH CLIPS SO I CAN MOVE THE WIRES TO THE TRACKS BACK AND FORTH. THANKS.
