First, thanks for feedback you all have provided on my previous two posting. I really appreciate all the comments and advice.
Since my last posting, I've been doing on track work, learning to solder feeder wires to my track and lastly, trying to learn how to wire my turnouts for DCC. At this point, all my track is cut, I'm soldering pretty well and I think I understand what I need to do to wire the turnouts.
But, I need to check on something before I go further. I've read about DCC wiring for Peco turnouts on this forum and also these sites: http://www.loystoys.com/peco/about-electrofrog.html, and, also: http://www.wiringfordcc.com/wirefordcc_toc.htm.
Below is my track plan and under it the part I question.
My question is about turnout #3. I think I understand I need power to it, correct? Then, what is the best way to do that? The way I see it, I have to solder directly to the rail. That’s what the second site above suggests although I’ve been told you can solder the feeder wires to the metal joiners. In this case, for turnout #3, both ends have plastic insulating joiners, so that doesn’t seem to have any potential. Where is the best place on the turnout to solder to the rail? Between the rail joiners and the points at the toe or at the opposite end? I experimented on an old one soldering between the joiners at the toe and before the points and found the plastic ties softened a little and allow play in the rail. That was with a pretty quick a solid soldering. So, I just need to be sure what the best way to go about wiring #3 and not risk wrecking the turnout in the process.
