I use 4-conductor (2 pair) phone hookup wire for my Atlas and Peco turnouts. They work fine. It's about the cheapest multi-conductor wire you can find, too.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
I used Cat-5 to my tortoise machines without a problem. Depends on length of the wire though. Not sure about the coil machines - they require more current.

I use salvaged communications wire (#22 or #24 solid) to power Rix and some old KTM twin-coil switch machines. As long as the wire isn't covering a preposterous distance, that should be adequate. I doubt that the Peco machines will draw more current than the KTMs - they're only about 1/4 the size!

I'll set up routes with toggles or push buttons and a diode matrix and there could be 4-5 turnouts operated at the same time. IS CAT5 or telephone hookup wire large enough?
Yes, that is fine.
