heavy tsunami installed in Bachmann 2-6-6-2, does good!

Finished a heavy tsunami in Bachmann HO 2-6-6-2. Does good. Am tweaking it off and on now between that and just watching and listening to it. Turned on the equalizer finally and that opens up more doors. Used generic setting for speaker size. Don't want to mess with each indiv eq setting. Engine runs so good I even like to do switching moves with it. It's just fun to watch and listen.

notes: 

1. I put speaker to fire up through coal load. used a qsi deep base 1" and it wouldn't fit in the tender pointing down and still allow enough room for the decoder. Even at that, it’s a tight fit under the coal load because of the 3 sloped sides. Cut some holes in the sloping sides and back sheets for the tabs on the speaker. Then sealed them with styrene outside of the cut holes. The width of the styrene in the sides and back sheet was enough to allow the speaker to nest properly. Rtv’d spkr to the coal load, under .037 holes to let sound out.

2. used a .037 drill for holes in the coal load, don't see them, honestly. I used a bigger drill for my 2-8-0 and that was bad, got a new coal load from Bachmann, will redo with the smaller drill bit. When all else fails follow instructions and know your tools. Measure if necessary.

3. don't even begin to think, aha the engine to tender plug is probably the same wire routing on the 2-6-6-2 as it was on the 2-8-0. might be, might not be. mine wasn't, learned the hard way. Again, follow instructions and test if necessary.

Next project, heavy mountain, same tender shell as 2-6-6-2. I'm thinking to do a standard 1 " speaker in the coal load and another one (maybe 1 x 1 ½ oval) facing down through the tender floor. I think a standard speaker will fit down there and still leave room for the decoder. If not then I'll have one already for my athearn mike.

I still like the QSI equipped locos too. Would be hard picked to say a favorite. Maybe old age and resistance to change. Ha!  But they’re both pretty doggone neat!
